A Complete Front & Backyard Landscape Makeover
This Upper Coomera property had plenty of potential, but the front and backyard needed a complete refresh to bring the gardens back to life and improve the functionality of the property.
Garden Gods carried out a full landscape makeover across both the front and rear of the home, including new drainage, retaining walls, turf, garden bed renovations, fresh rock and mulch, and new tropical-style planting.
The result was a cleaner, more functional landscape that complemented the home's elevated position and existing gardens.
The Challenge
One of the biggest challenges on this project was the property's steep, tiered backyard.
The backyard is spread across three levels, with a large amount of material required to be moved up and down the slope and a set of steps.
Access was limited, meaning we couldn't simply bring machinery through the lawn without risking damage to the existing grass and surrounding gardens.
Instead, a significant amount of the material had to be moved up the hill by hand.
This required careful planning and a lot of labour, but it allowed us to complete the work while protecting the existing lawn and surrounding landscape.
Backyard Transformation
The three-tiered backyard was given a complete refresh while retaining the character of the existing landscape.
The works included:
- Adding a fresh layer of decorative rock over the existing rock along the backyard pathways
- Removing tired and unwanted plants, including established banana plants
- Introducing new plants throughout the garden beds
- Remulching all existing garden beds
- Cleaning up and reshaping planting areas
- Refreshing the overall look and presentation of the three-tiered backyard
The existing mature tropical planting provided a great foundation, so the focus was on cleaning up, improving and enhancing the garden rather than completely starting again.
Front Yard Transformation
The front yard also received a major facelift, with improvements focused on both appearance and functionality.
Works included:
- Installing new drainage to improve water management
- Replacing turf damaged during the installation of the property's new sealed concrete driveway
- Constructing new retaining walls around the garden beds
- Remulching all garden beds
- Creating a new garden bed at the top of the property
- Installing new planting throughout the refreshed garden areas
The combination of new turf, retaining walls, fresh mulch and planting completely changed the presentation of the front of the property.
The result
The finished property now has a much cleaner and more cohesive landscape across both the front and backyard.
The refreshed planting, new mulch and rock, rebuilt garden beds, retaining walls, new turf and improved drainage have transformed the property while working with its existing mature landscape.
Most importantly, the project wasn't simply about making the gardens look better, it was about improving the functionality of the property while creating a landscape that is easier to maintain and enjoy.
